"Connections, Curiosity and Confidence in Whinham"
Whinham is the largest room in our service and has a spacious outdoor learning environment, with both natural and built play spaces for learning.
Walking into the Whinham room in the morning really lifts your spirits. The room is flooded with natural light reflecting off our proudly displayed pieces of child-made artwork. Children dart in-between the open shelves, eager to choose their first activity of the day. The room is buzzing with the sound of chatter, some solitary, some in little groups. The tone is unmistakably that of exploration and excitement.
Weekly we encourage our children to pick out a book from the library. These library visits, part of their routine, are an excellent source of stimulating our children's natural curiosity. Some are immersed in colourful storybooks, some carefully picking out letters and numbers. Each child is expanding their cognitive understanding, as per our philosophy, right in front of our eyes.
An enriching part of our term involvs interacting with our buddies from the local primary school. The camaraderie, shared learning, and friendships that grow from these interactions resonate with our core ethos. The children seem to soak up the wisdom from their older buddies, displayed in their improved confidence, speech, and interactions.
As part of our theme "All About Me", we also spent time reminiscing about our recent visit to the local retirement homes. The experience was heartwarming, witnessing the exchange of stories, laughter and mutual respect. It's remarkable how relationships formed between generations can empower a child's understanding and acceptance of age diversity.
The children's enthusiasm in these activities certainly echoes elements of the EYLF, specifically the focus on children being confident and involved learners. To continue nurturing this natural curiosity and confidence, we ought to identify other interesting places in our community for visits, encouraging even more connections and friendships.

Whinham has an inviting play space outdoors with a slippery-dip, Decked areas, swings, hut and large play space. Whinham share a fence line this Vaughn that has a bird aviary and adjoins both the school and Hepburn. down.
Children participate in gardening experiences such as planting and maintaining the vegetable beds. the harvest is shared with families or used to feed our rabbits.
There is a paved area, decking space and faux grassed areas . The open space of our yard promotes exploration and creative role play in areas such as the Bali Hut Sandpit, home corner under the veranda, swing area and triangular hut.
