 WHINHAM ~ 4 - 5 YEARS OLD

Whinham caters for children aged 4 years until they attend school.

The legislated educator:child ratio is 1:10 for this age group.
As per legislative requirements Whinham's Lead Educator Ranjana and Antonia both hold a 4 year Degree in Early Education. Whinham follows the Early Years Learning Framework curriculum, as do all our rooms and as is required for Kindergartens and ELC.

Whinham is our newest room and was part of our major renovations across 2014/2015. This room has allowed us a dedicated space for children in the year prior to schooling.

There are open shelves for free choice and across the room and curriculum, self help skills and independence are taught and encouraged.

It is a wonderful space that is bright and airy with enthusiastic Educators who love sharing in the child's learning. Whinham has term themes with weekly/fortnightly topics within the theme based on the children's interests.

Diversity and cultures are welcomed and supported through our focus on families, visitors to the centre and our Term 1 theme annually "All About Me".

Whinham children have Yoga lessons once a week, library visits and engage with local primary schools to have a "buddy system". Whinham has also participated in inter-generational visits with local retirement homes and hopes to recommence these when COVID restrictions allow.

Whinham has an inviting play space outdoors with a large and shady tree with a  sloped climb to a play area and  a slippery-dip down. Recycled Apple Bins are in use for vegetable gardens and Hopsy and Poh the rabbits have a large run behind them.

Children participate in gardening experiences such as planting and maintaining the vegetable beds. the harvest is shared with families or used to feed our rabbits.

There is a paved area, decking space and faux grassed areas surrounding the ladybird slippery-dip. We also have a bridge, sanpit and boat for the children to explore and play in. There is enough space for several Educational Play based activities to be set up simultaneously. The  Bali Hut has also become a favourite with the children as a space to sit and talk with friends.

The open space of our yard promotes exploration and creative role play in areas such as the Bali Hut, and home corner under the veranda.

The whole area receives lots of natural shade and in the early months of 2021 will have a cantilevered umbrella installed.

'The screened fence on the back of the Whinham Yard provides privacy with some vision through to the playground area of a local primary school.

We would love to hear from you!
