ABOUT US

We are a community-based early education and care service, proudly self-managed and dedicated to serving our local families. Licensed to accommodate up to 85 children each day, our centre features four distinct rooms: Vaughn, Hepburn, Redmond, and Whinham.

Who are we?

What do we do?

Located in Prospect, South Australia, our not-for-profit centre provides a welcoming environment for up to 85 children each day across four purpose-built rooms.

Since our opening in 1994, we have continuously evolved to meet the needs of our community. From 2014 to 2016, the centre underwent significant renovations, enhancing our kitchen and bathroom facilities, adding a fourth learning space, and upgrading resource rooms for our dedicated Educators. We also revitalized the gardens surrounding each room, including a beautiful enhancement of our front community garden.

Our Centre is guided by a Management Committee, which serves as the governing body with overall legal, financial, and managerial responsibility. As an incorporated entity under the Associations Act 1985, we operate in accordance with a constitution and are proud members of Community Children’s Centres SA, which provides invaluable support to community-based centres like ours.

Day-to-day management, service provision, and administration are entrusted to our experienced Director. Our educational team includes two Early Childhood Teachers in our "Kindy" room - Whinham -  for older children and Lead Educators in each of our three younger rooms. We are proud to have a team of highly qualified Educators, with over 80% holding a Diploma of Early Childhood Education or higher.
At Prospect Community Early Education and Care, our mission is to provide quality care that supports every aspect of a child's development, meeting the needs of children, families, and the wider community.

We achieve this by offering a safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive. We encourage social interactions, play-based learning, and exploration, all of which are essential for their growth and development.

Our goal is to empower children to reach their full potential, complementing the care they receive at home. We are committed to supporting parents, caregivers, Educators, and the community as partners in this vital journey.

Our goals are to foster:
  • A strong sense of self-worth
  • The formation of stable, caring relationships with Educators and peers
  • The development of independence and personal responsibility
  • An appreciation and understanding of cultural, linguistic, gender, age, and ability differences
  • The growth of problem-solving, negotiation, and self-help skills
  • A deep respect for and awareness of our environment

"Solomon has now been attending for 3 months, and making the change was such a great decision for us. At his previous centre, he would get upset and wouldn’t look forward to going. Everyone told me it was just a phase, but I could tell that something wasn’t quite right. I posted on a prospect community group on Facebook asking for recommendations on local centres. Prospect community children’s centre was mentioned a few times. When Solomon was a baby I enquired but the wait list was too long. I almost didn’t bother to enquire again, but I am so, so glad I did. Solomon loves going that much that every morning he asks us if it’s a childcare day, and gets upset if it isn’t!! Our childcare experience has completely changed, I no longer feel guilty after dropping him off, and as a family we look forward to hearing stories from his day. We feel so confident and comforted by the quality of care he is receiving. He is so excited about learning (especially about Dinosaurs this term) and has loved his visits to the library and school. It has been lovely to see him bond with his educators, and build friendships with his peers. My only regret is that we didn’t make the change sooner! Thank you so much to your team for making the centre such a wonderful and welcoming space and for your very efficient communication. A special mention to the cooks for accomodating our dietary requests and to Andi, who is such a friendly face to welcome us in the morning as we walk through the door!"
